Today we are going to look at some reasons and real cases that explain why, at SeDigital, we recommend that clients contract directly with a “dedicated” hosting provider and not with companies that act as resellers.
Advantages of contracting with a specialised hosting company
The main reasons for contracting directly are:
- 24/7 support: “Dedicated” hosting companies will give you 24/7 support. When you contract with a reseller, support has to be provided by the reseller, and they do not always have 24/7 support.
- More resources: Logically, “fake” hosting companies resell resources to you at a higher price (after all, it is normal for them to do so, as they want to make money). Decent companies usually limit the resources of specific client accounts so that your account resources are exclusive and the other clients on that server do not consume your resources. This is not always the case with “fake” hosting companies; many times they do not have that separation by cPanel account and you are sharing resources with more clients.
- Cheaper: As we mentioned in the point above, resellers ultimately have to add an extra cost for their “work”. Contracting directly with the company that provides them with hosting will make it cheaper for you.
- No hijacking: If you want to migrate hosting, they will never create obstacles or “hijack” your files/website, which is something we cannot say we have never seen from some resellers.
- Infrastructure: Specialised hosting companies usually invest in quality infrastructure to guarantee optimal performance for the websites hosted on their servers. This can include high-end servers, fast and reliable networks, efficient data storage systems, automated backups and more. With robust and optimised infrastructure, they can offer better uptime, faster loading speeds and greater stability for your websites.
How to detect reseller hosting
Reseller companies usually do not have a specific hosting website. They tend to have a service page within their website, but they offer other services such as web development, SEO…

Another way to detect whether it is reseller hosting is if they do not give you access to the hosting website administration panel, and only give you access to the panel (cPanel/Plesk).
Recommended hosting providers
There are many hosting companies that offer quality servers at a reasonable price. Some have a stronger point in their favour than others, such as having physical servers in Spain instead of subcontracting servers from large companies (such as OVH/Hetzner), but in general, we recommend these:
- Nicalia: Our trusted hosting provider and the one we recommend to all our clients. They have physical servers in Barcelona, have implemented innovations in the sector (such as Elastic Hosting) and have taken ecoCloud seriously. We have a 10% coupon available: SEDIGITALNICALIA
- ProfesionalHosting: Offers shared hosting, VPS hosting (Virtual Private Server) and dedicated servers. Shared hosting is ideal for small and medium-sized projects, where several websites share the resources of one server. VPS plans offer greater flexibility and control, as they allocate dedicated resources to each user. Dedicated servers, on the other hand, provide an exclusive environment for a single client, which offers maximum performance and customisation capacity.
- RaiolaNetworks: Provides shared hosting, VPS hosting and dedicated servers. Its shared hosting offer is suitable for small and medium-sized projects, where several websites share the resources of one server.
Things to consider in hosting
Today, we only recommend hosting providers that run on LiteSpeed technology and have servers with NVMe hard drives. A hosting service that uses LiteSpeed and NVMe hard drives offers significant benefits in terms of performance and speed. Here is why:
- LiteSpeed: LiteSpeed is a high-performance web server that replaces Apache. Unlike Apache, LiteSpeed uses fewer server resources and can handle a higher number of simultaneous requests. This means your website will load faster and will be able to handle more traffic smoothly. In addition, LiteSpeed offers advanced caching and compression features, which further improves your site’s performance.
- NVMe hard drives: NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) hard drives are an extremely fast and efficient storage technology. Unlike HDD hard drives or even SSD drives, NVMe drives use a PCIe connection interface that allows much higher data transfer speeds. This means your website’s loading times will be considerably faster, which improves user experience and search engine rankings.
Important
You also need to look at the CPU, RAM and I/O of the contracted server to understand its performance.
Which hosting plans we recommend
We will try to summarise which plans we recommend depending on the different websites, without going too far into technical details:
- “Simple” WordPress websites for service companies: Nicalia Mini NVME plan: Link
- PrestaShop websites: Nicalia Elastic Start plan and above: Link
- “Complete” WordPress websites: Nicalia Elastic Start plan and above: Link
Please note that these are general recommendations and that each case is unique. To find out which specific plan we recommend, you can contact us. You also need to take into account email size (as it is part of the hosting space) to know whether the plans mentioned would be enough or whether you would need to look at a higher plan, or consider migrating your email to Google Workspace.
